Overview

Opendorse is the leading NIL technology platform for college athletics. We help schools, brands, and student athletes execute NIL at scale with tools to create opportunities, manage relationships, and distribute payments reliably. We are venture backed, fast growing, and operating in one of the most important shifts in sports business in decades.

The NIL market is still early, and the winners will be the platforms that combine workflow, data, and payments into a single trusted system. That is what we are building. We are creating the infrastructure layer that makes NIL work cleanly for an athletic department, for a brand, and for tens of thousands of athletes across programs and geographies.

Finance is not a back-office function here. It is a growth engine and a trust engine. The VP, Finance will help shape company strategy, build the long-range plan, and scale a modern finance operation that can keep pace with expanding marketplace volume, product lines, and fundraising milestones.

The Role

The Vice President, Finance is Opendorse’s top finance leader and a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. This person will own our financial strategy and operating rigor, while staying close to the day-to-day realities of a payments-heavy marketplace business. You will lead and scale finance across FP&A, accounting and controls, marketplace funds flow and payouts, and payroll and benefits. You will be hands on when needed, and you will play a central role in fundraising, investor relations, and long-term value creation.

This is a role for a finance leader who wants to help scale a high growth marketplace business, not just report on it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own company forecast, annual budget, and multi-year plan, tying "CORE" (Opendorse's strategic operating system) priorities to revenue, margin, headcount, and runway.
  • Produce weekly ELT scorecards and monthly Board / investor reporting with clear narrative on performance, trends, and risks.
  • Build and maintain the core financial model, including revenue drivers, gross margin, operating expense planning, and cash projections.
  • Lead month-end close and financial statement accuracy under U.S. GAAP, improving speed and reducing manual work.
  • Oversee contract-to-cash workflows, including billing through Stripe, collections, and revenue recognition.
  • Oversee procure-to-pay and spend controls through tools like Ramp, including vendor setup, approvals, and cash disbursement.
  • Manage daily cash and banking operations, including restricted vs. unrestricted cash tracking and marketplace payables.
  • Own marketplace funds flow and payouts, including payment processor reconciliations, scheduled paydays, and exception handling.
  • Lead athlete and marketplace tax reporting and compliance, including 1099 / 1042-S and international payment processes.
  • Partner with GTM leaders on pipeline to revenue alignment, plus commission and bonus plan design and calculations.
  • Support fundraising and investor relations, including diligence prep, data requests, and financial storytelling.
  • Hire, lead, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team with clear standards for accuracy, cadence, and ownership.

What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)

  • Reliable weekly and monthly reporting that builds ELT, Board, and investor confidence.
  • Faster, tighter month end close with clear ownership and fewer manual workarounds.
  • Clear visibility into marketplace funds flow, payables, and cash position.
  • A forecast that connects company priorities to revenue, margin, hiring, and runway.
  • Clean, on time tax and compliance filings with a repeatable playbook for athlete reporting.
  • A scalable finance operating model that supports growth without burning out the team.

Experience & Background

  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership, including Head of Finance, VP/SVP Finance, or CFO in a venture backed, high growth company.
  • Experience in marketplace, fintech, SaaS, or payments heavy businesses with complex funds flow and compliance.
  • Track record owning both FP&A and core accounting/controllership in a lean, fast‑moving company.
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting, and executive/board reporting skills.
  • Experience supporting fundraising, investor relations, and/or M&A.
  • Familiarity with Stripe, PayPal, ACH, banking partners, and modern finance tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA/CPA/CFA a plus).

Skills & Competencies

  • Hands‑on and detail‑oriented, but able to step back and drive strategy.
  • Clear, direct communicator who can simplify complex issues for any audience.
  • Builder who enjoys creating processes, systems, and teams in a scaling environment.
  • Collaborative partner who views finance as both steward and enabler of growth.
  • High‑integrity leader who treats company and athlete funds with care.
  • Strong command of U.S. GAAP and controllership fundamentals.
  • Excellent modeling and analytical skills with strong reporting experience.
  • Genuine interest in sports and NIL, and excited to build in a fast-evolving category.
