Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Test Engineer at Virtual Incision, you will be part of a team that is designing, prototyping, testing, and producing cutting-edge miniature surgical robots that advance the field of surgery. You will work on projects from conception to manufacture, collaborating with electrical engineers, software engineers, scientists, surgeons, vendors, and other subject-matter experts to ensure our work continues to enhance patient outcomes while providing excellent value for our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop hardware for all system components for the Virtual Incision RASD (Robotically Assisted Surgery Device)
  • Oversee verification testing by creating testing plans, ensure that testing is executed correctly in the lab and protocols are strictly followed.
  • Enforce consistent testing structure to ensure all protocols and reports follow the V&V work instructions.
  • Support project processes as a product nears V&V phase, help organize the team, track task progress, manage devices, and create pre-verification testing plans.
  • Maintain and control testing lab space; includes equipment maintenance and qualifications, keeping the lab organized, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and up to date, and ensuring necessary fixtures/equipment are available for upcoming verification tests.
  • Drive continuous improvement by updating protocols as necessary to ensure clarity and ease of performance.
  • Assist in the transfer of tests to manufacturing by supporting implementation of verification tests in operations when needed.
  • Work closely with R&D development engineers on project teams throughout design and development process
  • Assist in definition, creation, analysis, and allocation of system hardware requirements.
  • Conduct analysis, review and evaluation of design alternatives and failure mode analyses.
  • Develop Design History File (DHF) deliverables.
  • Participate in Risk Analysis activities.
  • Participate in technical reviews.

Qualifications:

  • · Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or similar discipline required.
  • 1-3 years of engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of verification and validation, protocol/report writing preferred.
  • Knowledge of product development lifecycle desired.
  • FDA QSR medical device regulatory requirements and industry/regulatory body recognized technical products standards knowledge desired.
  • Microsoft Office Suite software proficiency required
  • Problem-solving and design experience.
  • Experience in robotics engineering preferred.
